Job Description

Project Manager SRG Global Newcastle

SRG Global, an ASX-listed diversified infrastructure services company with origins in the 1961 Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join its expanding Utilities team. This full-time, onsite role is based in Newcastle.

About the Role This position focuses on the delivery of a varied portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects throughout the Hunter Region. Work involves the construction and enhancement of vital water networks, pipelines, treatment facilities, and associated civil infrastructure, contributing to the improved reliability and resilience of essential community services.

With a robust pipeline of secured and forthcoming projects in the water sector, this permanent role offers sustained stability, exposure to complex projects, and opportunities for genuine career advancement within a high-performing team. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Project Manager will lead the successful execution of water infrastructure projects. This includes overseeing all engineering, commercial, and project management activities to ensure safe, high-quality results delivered on schedule and within budget. A strong safety culture will be fostered through a care-based approach, driving operational performance, client satisfaction, and project profitability. As the company's portfolio grows, the role presents opportunities to work across multiple projects in the Hunter Region while further developing technical expertise and leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage and oversee daily operations throughout the project lifecycle, coordinating performance via Project Supervisors as required. This includes addressing issues, monitoring progress, controlling budgets (including variations), and managing production to meet financial targets.
  • Contribute to tender preparation, review methodologies, and program preparation.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of relevant contracts, schedules, and annexures.
  • Undertake Project Planning and Design, including issuing certificates of currency, conducting internal project commencement meetings, managing project risks, and reviewing work breakdown structures, schedules, and budgets.
  • Develop and communicate project health and safety plans, environmental management plans, community plans, quality plans, and delivery plans.
  • Proactively manage the full "pre-start" project setup process to ensure the initial ramp-up phase proceeds to schedule and avoids unnecessary delays during project delivery.
  • Understand project scope and ensure cost-effective construction methodologies are implemented.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement to reduce costs and time.
  • Ensure project finances align with budget by reviewing and approving invoices for labour and materials, taking corrective action to reduce costs where necessary.
  • Centralise procurement where feasible to maximise gains and minimise unnecessary expenditure.
  • Monitor and maintain the budget, program, and productivity to identify and act on opportunities to improve margins and address issues early with corrective actions.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate weekly and monthly reports, presenting to Senior Managers on project reporting, highlighting issues and opportunities for enhanced project success.
  • Ensure full QA and HSEC documentation and systems are properly established, providing adequate coverage and support for projects.
  • Fulfil all responsibilities as outlined in project management plans (PMP, QMP, SMP, CEMP, etc.).
  • Lead safety behaviour on site by setting high standards, challenging and improving practices, maintaining open communication, and providing support to all project team members and subcontractors regarding safety requirements.
  • Manage the subcontractor procurement and onboarding process, including identification, tender analysis, selection, agreement negotiation, purchase order generation, notice template preparation, and obtaining contract documents such as insurances and warranties.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of Project Management experience in the Water, Gas, or Oil sectors.
  • A Bachelor of Engineering degree accredited by Engineers Australia at the Professional Engineer level, or an equivalent engineering body.
  • Experience in project estimation, costing, and working within budget constraints.
  • A high level of business and commercial acumen, supported by a sound ability to create, read, and interpret budgets, financial statements, and variance reports.
  • Strong safety leadership capability.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • A high level of personal resilience and persistence.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent conflict resolution management skills.
  • Excellent skills in relationship building, problem-solving, negotiation, and leadership.
