Senior Accountant

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Hobart, TAS. This full-time, onsite role presents a significant opportunity to engage with a varied client base, delivering both compliance and strategic advisory services.
About the Role As a Senior Accountant, you will be instrumental in providing tax and compliance services, SMSF services, identifying advisory prospects, and supporting the professional growth of junior and intermediate team members. You will work with individuals, businesses, and SMSFs across a wide array of industries and entity structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance:
- Preparation and review of financial statements for all entity types.
- Preparation and review of income tax returns for all entity types.
- Preparation and review of Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS).
- Assisting with the management of client taxation compliance obligations.
- Liaising with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on behalf of clients.
- Ensuring adherence to relevant taxation legislation and accounting standards.
- Advisory Services:
- Delivering proactive taxation and business advisory services.
- Assisting clients with business structuring and restructuring where applicable.
- Tax planning and cash flow forecasting.
- Business performance analysis.
- Assisting clients with budgeting and management reporting.
- Supporting business growth, succession, and asset protection strategies.
- Advising clients on wealth creation and integrated financial strategies in collaboration with other GDA Group service lines.
- Providing SMSF compliance and advisory support.
- Team Development:
- Reviewing work prepared by junior and intermediate accountants.
- Assisting with workflow management and quality control processes.
- Contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
Skills & Experience To be considered for this position, you will need:
- Essential:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 4 years' experience in a public practice accounting environment.
- Strong experience across business services and taxation.
- Experience preparing financial statements and income tax returns for various entity types.
- Sound knowledge of Australian taxation legislation.
- Experience with SMSF compliance and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and strong analytical capability.
- The ability to work autonomously while contributing to a team environment.
- Desirable:
- Experience providing business advisory services.
- Experience reviewing junior staff work.
- Knowledge of Xero and Class Super.
