Job Description

Senior Accountant

The Acquire Group

Ryde

Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 + superannuation Work Type: Full-time Work Setting: Onsite

About the Company Our client is a privately owned Australian business with over two decades of experience in civil construction and infrastructure. They have built a strong reputation and operate a multi-entity group that has achieved consistent double-digit growth. As the business has expanded, so too has its finance function, and they are now seeking experienced senior support to guide it through its next phase.

About the Role This is a critical number-two position reporting to the Head of Finance. It is a hands-on role offering full accountability for the daily operations of the finance function. You will manage the month-end close process, ensure balance sheet integrity, handle statutory reporting, and lead the transactional team. You will have the freedom to influence operational processes rather than following an established structure. A significant development agenda is in place, including modernising payroll, establishing CAPEX and asset governance from the ground up, transitioning the group to general purpose financial statements, and implementing a robust reporting framework. The work undertaken in this role will directly impact the operational methods of the finance function. The company actively supports work/life balance, a value they wish to share with the successful candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Full ownership of the month-end close process, including timetable management, journal entries, reconciliations, and P&L delivery for review.
  • Ensuring balance sheet integrity across a multi-entity group, covering intercompany transactions, accruals, and key control accounts.
  • Managing statutory compliance and reporting, while supporting the transition to general purpose financial statements (Tier 2).
  • Supervising the transactional finance team, encompassing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, with direct support provided as needed.
  • Overseeing payroll modernisation efforts, including the digitisation of time and attendance systems and the integration of award and enterprise agreement interpretation logic.
  • Establishing CAPEX and fixed asset governance, and consolidating asset registers into a single, reconciled source of truth.
  • Providing treasury support, including cashflow reporting and working capital monitoring.
  • Mentoring and developing a small team, while driving improvements in processes and systems across the finance function.

Ideal Background

  • CA/CPA qualified.
  • Demonstrated experience in owning the month-end close process within a hands-on commercial setting.
  • A background that ideally combines the discipline and best practices of a larger commercial business with the agility and breadth of a smaller, full-function environment.
  • Sufficient understanding of payroll to oversee processing and provide end-to-end cover when required.
  • Familiarity with Jobpac or similar construction-focused ERP systems, multi-entity consolidations, and AASB 15 & 16 (desirable).
  • A mindset focused on systems and process improvement, with the ability to operate autonomously.

Benefits

  • A second-in-command position reporting to the Head of Finance, with associated autonomy.
  • Genuine opportunities for building and improving processes, beyond routine operational tasks.
  • Employment with an established, privately owned, and well-regarded growing business.
  • Convenient location in Sydney's Ryde area, with proximity to transport and nearby parking.
  • Work/life balance that is actively promoted and upheld.
