Senior Asset Accountant
Kingston Human Capital is seeking a Senior Asset Accountant for a contract position with a State Government finance team in Brisbane QLD. This role offers an hourly rate of $79 - $84 plus Superannuation and is an onsite position.
About the Opportunity
This position is within Strategic Investments and Enterprise Finance, specifically joining the Capital Maintenance and Asset Accounting Team. You will play a key role in supporting the department's capital investment and asset management functions. Reporting to the Manager, Capital Maintenance and Asset Accounting, your responsibilities will include providing financial analysis, reporting, and advisory services concerning capital projects, asset accounting, and budget management. The role offers exposure to complex financial management issues and the chance to collaborate closely with senior management, Queensland Treasury, and key stakeholders.
Key Contributions
- Prepare and analyse monthly capital project reports, reconciliations, briefing notes, and presentations.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations related to capital and asset management activities.
- Contribute to the development and review of capital management policies, procedures, and financial controls.
- Offer professional advice on Capital Work-in-Progress, asset acquisitions, and associated accounting treatments.
- Ensure compliance with Queensland Treasury Financial Reporting Requirements, Australian Accounting Standards, and relevant government policies.
- Support the management of the agency's annual capital budget and budget revisions.
- Ensure capital budget information is accurately reflected across Queensland Treasury Budget Papers, Tridata, and internal reporting systems.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, Queensland Treasury, and external service providers.
- Support the development and maintenance of effective internal controls across capital and asset accounting processes.
- Prepare financial information and reports for senior management, auditors, and other key stakeholders.
- Maintain current knowledge of accounting standards, financial legislation, and best practice asset accounting principles.
- Provide support to the Manager, Capital Maintenance and Asset Accounting as required.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Strong experience in management accounting, capital accounting, or asset accounting roles.
- Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and government financial management frameworks.
- Experience preparing complex financial reports, reconciliations, and budget analyses.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate financial information effectively to a range of stakeholders.
- Proven stakeholder engagement skills and ability to build effective working relationships.
- Experience working with financial systems and reporting tools.
Highly Desirable
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
- Membership or eligibility for membership with CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), or the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).
- Previous experience in a similar role within government or the public sector.
