The Department of Customer Service (DCS) is dedicated to transforming how NSW Government agencies engage with citizens. We prioritise the customer in all our endeavours and leverage new technologies to enhance government operations. As a service provider and regulator, DCS focuses on delivering exceptional customer service, driving digital transformation, and implementing regulatory reforms to achieve superior outcomes for the people of NSW.

The Government Shared Services (GSS) division within DCS is a new entity committed to streamlining transactional shared services and processes. This allows our personnel to concentrate more effectively on customer engagement and service delivery. GSS is developing and executing a strategy to utilise technology, simplify processes, replace outdated systems, and provide a uniform experience for over 100 agencies across eight NSW Government Departments.

What You Will Do

As the Senior Controls Assurance Advisor, you will be instrumental in managing the Business Process Operations (BPO) control environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and facilitating assurance and audit activities within a complex control framework.
  • Serving as a trusted partner to ensure reviews and audits are conducted effectively, managed efficiently, and supported by robust evidence, leading to timely, transparent, and impactful assurance outcomes.
  • Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders across operational, finance, procurement, and supplier domains.
  • Facilitating audit readiness initiatives, which involves coordinating evidence requests, walkthroughs, responses, and remediation actions across multiple teams and service providers.
  • Monitoring the progress of remediation actions until their successful completion.
  • Preparing clear and concise reports, findings, and updates for leadership and governance stakeholders, translating complex control and audit matters into practical business impacts and actionable steps.
  • Contributing to the enhancement of assurance frameworks, audit coordination practices, analytical capabilities, and reporting tools as part of a continuous improvement agenda, aiming to improve consistency, efficiency, and transparency across the broader assurance program.

About You

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrated strong capabilities in assurance, audit, and/or controls experience, coupled with effective stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships within complex operational and supplier environments, with confidence in engaging a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in coordinating audits within large or complex organisations.
  • An understanding of how to manage competing priorities, navigate sensitive issues, and drive activities to conclusion in dynamic settings where evidence, timelines, and stakeholder expectations can vary.
  • Highly organised, analytical, and solutions-focused, with the ability to communicate complex control or audit issues clearly and concisely, adapting your approach for both operational and executive audiences.
  • Confidence in engaging with senior stakeholders, recognising the value of influencing without direct authority.
  • Strong data and systems proficiency, including advanced Excel skills, with a proven capacity to derive valuable insights from data.

Salary Grade: 9/10, with the base salary for this role starting at $129,464 base plus superannuation.
