Senior Engineer, Mechanical Design & Industrial Design at Resmed
Resmed is seeking a Senior Engineer, Mechanical Design & Industrial Design to join their Product Development team in Sydney, NSW. This full-time, onsite role is for an individual who finds satisfaction in guiding a product from its initial concept to a tangible, manufacturable item.
This position involves overseeing the complete product lifecycle, from conceptualisation and detailed mechanical design to prototyping, rigorous testing, and subsequent design enhancements. The successful candidate will focus on mechanical systems, individual components, and complete assemblies, establishing the necessary specifications for large-scale, high-quality product manufacturing. This opportunity also allows for the integration of a broader product perspective, thoughtfully balancing engineering quality, user experience, and physical design choices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and product concepts.
- Generate mechanical specifications that facilitate reliable manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Construct, test, and refine prototypes to enhance fit, function, performance, and usability.
- Collaborate across engineering, design, and project teams to transform ideas into realised products.
- Lead project work and provide mentorship to less experienced team members.
What You Will Bring:
- Substantial experience in mechanical product design, with a preference for products that have progressed from concept to manufacturable outcomes.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, including SolidWorks, Creo, Siemens NX, or similar.
- A strong grasp of mechanical design principles, material selection, tolerance analysis (GD&T), and Design for Manufacture (DFM/DFA).
- Experience designing for manufacturing processes such as injection moulding, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and additive manufacturing.
- Experience utilising engineering simulation tools like ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation for structural or thermal analysis.
- Proficiency in producing engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and manufacturing documentation.
- Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems such as SolidWorks PDM, Teamcenter, or Windchill.
- A practical background in prototyping, testing, and iterative product development.
- Sound judgement regarding materials, assemblies, manufacturability, and practical design trade-offs.
- An appreciation for industrial design and user-centred product thinking.
- A relevant degree and approximately 8+ years of related experience.
