Job Description

Senior Engineer

Company: Weir Group Location: Clayton, Victoria Work Type: Full-time Work Arrangement: Onsite

Weir is a global leader in mining technology, dedicated to advancing a sustainable future. We assist our clients in the efficient and responsible extraction of essential global resources. The transition to renewable energy relies on the metals and minerals our customers provide, and we partner with mines worldwide to optimise rock movement, energy consumption, water usage, and waste generation, driving the shift towards smart, efficient, and sustainable mining.

Make Your Impact

The Senior Engineer is instrumental in delivering innovative tailings and pipeline solutions that significantly benefit customers and the resources sector. This role involves consultancy and R&D projects, transforming complex test data into practical, high-quality designs, while collaborating within a supportive engineering team. You will contribute to a culture that prioritises safety, precision, continuous learning, and shared success, encouraging thoughtful analysis, teamwork, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead consultancy and R&D projects aligned with customer requirements, delivering high-quality, innovative technical solutions.
  • Execute projects through data analysis, process design (separation, dewatering, pipelines, backfill), and clear technical reporting.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, fostering effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary client contact, managing relationships and ensuring project scope, quality, and delivery expectations are met.
  • Ensure SHEQ compliance and uphold a safety-first culture while delivering practical solutions on time, primarily based at the Weir Technical Centre.
  • Demonstrate 100% commitment to zero harm behaviours, supporting the development of a world-class safety culture.

What You'll Bring

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering (Process, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Metallurgical) with exposure to rheology, hydraulics, or particulate solids transport.
  • 5–10 years of engineering experience in mining, minerals processing, or related industries, particularly in separation, dewatering, or solids transport systems.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex technical data and translate findings into practical, fit-for-purpose engineering solutions.
  • Hands-on knowledge of process equipment, including pumps, cyclones, centrifuges, and thickeners.
  • Strong technical communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, CAD, and professional report writing and presentations.
  • Postgraduate qualifications, Chartered Engineer status, team leadership experience, or programming capability (e.g., VBA or C++) will be highly regarded.
