Senior Finance and Payroll Officer
Mosman Preparatory School is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Finance and Payroll Officer to join its Operations Team. This is an opportunity for a finance professional to contribute to financial excellence and operational effectiveness within a dynamic school environment.
This part-time, onsite role commences September 2026 and reports directly to the Director of Business Operations. The position offers practical support and oversight for all finance and payroll processes, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance. It requires accountability, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to partner effectively with stakeholders across the Operations team and Faculty staff. The successful candidate will manage a critical function and contribute to ongoing process improvements and systems optimisation. The role requires active support of the School's vision and values, including its Christian character and purpose.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accounts & Ledger Management:
- Process supplier invoices.
- Prepare weekly payment runs.
- Manage electronic payments.
- Manage the end-to-end accounts receivable function, including tuition fee invoicing, ancillary income, and debtor management.
- General Accounting:
- Maintain the General Ledger, including journal preparation and monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage the School’s Asset Register and Leave Register.
- Payroll Processing:
- Prepare and process the end-to-end payroll function fortnightly.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable Multi Enterprise Agreements, PAYG obligations, and superannuation remittances.
- Reporting & Analysis:
- Assist with month-end processing.
- Prepare management reports.
- Conduct actual versus budget analysis.
- Deliver monthly variance reporting.
- Enquiry & Stakeholder Support:
- Respond professionally to staff queries regarding payslips, tax, superannuation, and leave.
- Address finance enquiries from parents and the school community.
- Year-End & Projects:
- Support budget preparation, audit coordination, and year-end financial reporting requirements.
- Manage process improvements and system enhancement projects.
Selection Criteria and Experience Required:
- CA or CPA qualified with strong technical accounting expertise.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a senior financial accounting role.
- Advanced financial reporting, reconciliation, and technical accounting skills are essential.
- Demonstrated strong experience in financial accounting and payroll systems.
- Advanced IT proficiency, including Microsoft 365 with strong Excel capability. Exposure to school or not-for-profit environments is highly regarded but not essential.
- High level of professionalism, including discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive payroll and financial information.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, oral/written communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Working knowledge of work health and safety legislation and child protection requirements.
