Senior Power System Engineer (FIA and ongoing)
ElectraNet is seeking a Senior Power System Engineer to contribute to the secure, reliable, and future-focused operation of South Australia's high-voltage electricity transmission network. This full-time, onsite role is based in Adelaide, SA.
ElectraNet builds, owns, operates, and maintains the critical high voltage electricity transmission network that powers South Australian homes, businesses, and communities. About the Role
Joining the Network Connections team, you will operate with a significant degree of autonomy, providing specialist technical advice on customer connections, system strength, and power system performance. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing connection proposals.
- Supporting technical assessments.
- Negotiating Generator Performance Standards.
- Developing fit-for-purpose power system models to ensure a secure and operable transmission network.
- Providing specialist advice across customer connections, power strength, network performance, and operational support.
- Developing and maintaining power system models to support system security, capability, and reliability.
- Influencing effective network outcomes through collaboration with internal teams, customers, and industry stakeholders.
About You
You are a seasoned power systems professional possessing strong technical judgement, meticulous attention to detail, and demonstrated experience in transmission network performance, customer connections, power system analysis, and modelling.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a higher qualification.
- Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in transmission networks, power systems, or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience in power system planning, network performance, customer connections, and operational support.
- Knowledge of transmission system reliability and performance.
- Familiarity with substation and transmission system components, their performance, and operation.
- A strong understanding and application of engineering analytical techniques for planning, system design, and operational support.
- A strong understanding and application of physics and mathematical principles in conducting system planning and operational support.
- The ability to identify and steer opportunities for business improvement by effectively influencing stakeholders.
- A strong understanding of the economic impact of solutions to complex technical problems.
- Experience with modelling and analysis tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, or AULimit.
- The ability to undertake programming using Python, Matlab, or similar.
- Sound knowledge of legislated industry requirements, including NER, ESCOSA, OTR, and AEMO Guidelines.
- Advanced analytical capability and problem-solving skills, including the interpretation of complex technical data and models.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, influence stakeholders, and engage effectively.
- A willingness to travel as required for site testing and commissioning activities.
