Role Overview: BAE Systems has an opportunity for a Senior Project Accountant/Finance Business Partner to join the Strategic Surveillance team, supporting the Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) and Arctic Over the Horizon Radar (A-OTHR). This role offers involvement from the initial stages, shaping the financial operations of the program for long-term success.
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position is responsible for maintaining the project's financial functions to ensure the integrity and transparency of financial data, facilitating planning and decision-making.
Core Duties:
- Support the design and implementation of program financial structures, processes, and controls.
- Provide finance business partnering support within the JORN Program and across functions.
- Assist with the preparation and review of the project Annual Budget, 5-Year Integrated Business Plan (IBP), Monthly Re-forecast, and Customer estimates.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to interpret policy requirements and translate them into practical financial processes.
- Perform Earned Value Management (EVM) of key suppliers, providing financial oversight of cost, schedule, forecast performance, and value delivery to support project and business objectives.
- Support the delivery of the organisation's strategy and objectives, the finance function's goals, and key priorities for Strategic Surveillance and its major programs.
- Uphold a strong governance culture, ensuring compliance with Finance Policies, Accounting Standards, and Customer contractual requirements.
Candidate Profile:
- Possesses a curious mind with the ability to think critically and challenge the status quo.
- Holds a degree qualification and a completed CA or CPA qualification.
- Has a good understanding and experience of Commercial policies and practice.
- Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience adapting these styles to audiences at varying organisational levels.
- Experience working within a project environment would be highly regarded but is not essential.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, both within finance and across functions, adapting style to account for individual differences and motivators.
- Capability to liaise and manage an internal and external network of business partners and peers.
- As a Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and either possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate clearances.
About the High Frequency Sensing Team: The High Frequency Sensing team is part of the BAE Systems Defence Delivery Business Unit. It delivers advanced Over The Horizon Radar (OTHR) capability across its full lifecycle, including acquisition, sustainment, and research and development, with all design undertaken within Australia. The team combines expertise in large and medium-scale wide-area surveillance systems to support sovereign capability and operational readiness for Australian and international export customers. This is an exciting time to join, with major upgrades underway for Australian and US customer systems, an evolving sustainment focus for the Australian Defence Force, and a role as the industry partner on Australia's largest defence export. The team is structured into two product portfolios, offering exciting opportunities and critical capabilities.
Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) and Arctic Over the Horizon Radar (A-OTHR): The Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) comprises three interconnected remote over-the-horizon radars in Queensland, the Northern Territory, and Western Australia. This defence radar system provides wide-area surveillance at ranges of 1,000 to 3,000 kilometres and is vital for supporting Australian Defence Force air and maritime operations, border protection, and disaster relief.
