Stormwater Engineer Aurecon Sydney NSW
Aurecon is seeking a Stormwater Engineer to join its Water, Environment and Land team. This full-time, hybrid role offers a highly competitive salary and meaningful benefits.
The team is actively shaping the design of drainage and waterways for complex infrastructure, water, and energy projects across New South Wales, including new interchanges, freight routes, renewable energy generation, and resilient transport corridors.
What You'll Do
As a Stormwater Engineer, you will contribute to projects that deliver tangible impact. You will be part of a team that embraces challenges, values diverse perspectives, and engineers solutions with people, community, and outcomes at the forefront.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting a variety of projects involving the design of stormwater systems, such as pits and pipes, open channels, culverts, and water quality assets.
- Conducting hydrological and hydraulic assessments for projects, from initial concept through to detailed design and construction support.
- Building and utilising models in software like 12d, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, DRAINS, TuFlow, or ORD, with guidance from senior specialists.
- Assisting with the preparation of design calculations, flooding assessments, drawings, specifications, and technical reports that clearly articulate stormwater solutions.
- Collaborating with other disciplines, including Energy, Roads, Bridges, Geotechnical, Environment, and Digital, to integrate drainage outcomes into broader project designs.
- Assisting with liaison with State Authorities (e.g., Sydney Water, TfNSW, Sydney Trains), Contractors, and utility stakeholders to secure approvals and ensure designs meet standards and client expectations.
- Contributing to the ongoing enhancement of stormwater tools, templates, and digital workflows, including exploring automation opportunities.
What You'll Bring
You possess a keen eye for technical detail and an understanding that effective stormwater design prioritises the protection of people, places, and the environment.
You will bring:
- A degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 1-4 years of experience in drainage, flooding, water quality, or civil design. Ideally, this experience would be within water, energy, transport, or land development projects, or an adjacent field that can be leveraged for our projects.
- Working knowledge of Australian standards, Austroads guidance, and ideally, TfNSW or Sydney Water design requirements.
- Some experience with design software such as 12d, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, DRAINS, ORD, or TuFlow, or a willingness to discuss other software you utilise.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on quality and constructability.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and explain design decisions.
- An interest in sustainability, water quality, and climate resilience, and a desire to pursue Chartered Engineer status over time.
