AHB Australia is seeking an experienced Structural & Civil Engineer to join our engineering team at our Derrimut head office. This is a full-time permanent role, operating Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with the flexibility of one Work From Home day per week.

The Opportunity
This role is crucial to the structural design of diverse developments. You will be responsible for producing construction documentation and providing on-site technical support from the design phase through to the completion of construction. This hands-on, technical position involves a combination of office-based design work and site visits across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. You will collaborate with internal teams including construction, pre-construction, and project management to ensure seamless project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct structural design and analysis for reinforced concrete and steel structures, including advanced load modelling and member capacity assessments.
- Generate detailed construction drawings, engineering specifications, and structural calculation reports.
- Perform site inspections during construction to confirm design compliance and offer practical technical guidance to address on-site issues such as design-to-site variances, alternative material approvals, and staging complexities.
- Design foundations and retaining walls, incorporating geotechnical findings for varied soil conditions.
- Review and assess shop drawings, connection details, and construction methodologies submitted by subcontractors and suppliers.
- Liaise with architects, project managers, building surveyors, and other disciplines to ensure design alignment and timely project completion.
- Prepare technical documentation for tender submissions and project proposals.
About You
Essential Criteria
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in structural design and analysis, with demonstrated expertise in reinforced concrete and steel structures.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for producing engineering drawings and documentation.
- Strong capability in structural analysis and finite element software such as SAP2000, ABAQUS, ETABS, or equivalent advanced tools.
- A solid understanding of structural design principles and the ability to apply relevant Australian Standards (AS 3600, AS 4100, AS 1170 series) or equivalent international design codes.
- Experience in seismic design, structural dynamics, or handling complex/large-scale building projects.
- Proven ability to provide on-site construction support and resolve technical challenges during the building phase.
- A current valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
Desirable Criteria
- A Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or a related field.
- A solid understanding of footing design for reactive soils (AS 2870) and Australian residential building methods, including timber framing systems.
- Familiarity with BIM workflows and software such as Revit.
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia.
- Experience preparing structural reports and documentation for award-winning or high-profile projects.
