Support Worker - Community - St Mary's

Claro Disability Services is seeking a casual Support Worker for onsite work in Sydney NSW.

We provide suitable housing, support, and transitions, guided by expertise and delivered with compassion.

This role offers the opportunity to work with individuals facing significant real-world needs, encompassing mobility, medical care, daily routines, communication, and engaging activities. Each client presents a unique situation, requiring tailored support that aligns with their individual goals, preferences, routines, values, and cultural background. Collaboration with families, medical professionals, and fellow support workers is integral to ensuring seamless service delivery. Shifts are flexible, allowing for the development of genuine relationships with clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Person-Centred Planning: Engage with clients (and their families/advocates) to understand their needs, goals, and routines.
  • Medical Support: Monitor for changes in client condition, adhere to medical and clinical plans, and communicate with the care team regarding any shifts.
  • Social Engagement and Participation: Facilitate meaningful activities, enjoyment, and community involvement aligned with client interests.
  • Autonomy and Advocacy: Support decision-making processes, respect consent, and promote independence where feasible.
  • Cultural Humility: Demonstrate respect for diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and ways of living.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • An individual with a person-centred approach, characterised by warmth, patience, and genuine care.
  • An interest in or experience with complex care, disability, and health-related nuances.
  • Strong communication skills, including effective listening, cue recognition, and adaptability to various communication styles.
  • Reliability and professionalism, with proficiency in note-taking and teamwork.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with comfort in managing changing needs and shifts.

  • Manual handling, epilepsy management, or disability support training is desirable.
