A well-established Australian switchboard manufacturer seeks a Project Manager to assume full responsibility for switchboard manufacturing projects, from order receipt to final delivery. This opportunity is suited for individuals with experience in switchboard manufacturing or a closely related field, who excel in a dynamic, hands-on manufacturing environment.
About the Business Our client is a respected Australian electrical manufacturer with a national reputation for delivering complex low-voltage switchboards, Motor Control Centres (MCCs), switchrooms, and custom power distribution systems. They serve clients across the infrastructure, commercial, and resources sectors. The company manages all processes internally, from engineering design through fabrication, assembly, and factory testing. The business is experiencing growth and possesses strong financial backing, with a robust pipeline of upcoming projects.
The Role This position involves complete project lifecycle management post-handover from estimating. Responsibilities include overseeing design engineers and drafting teams, coordinating shop floor activities, managing procurement, client relations, and project delivery. You will typically manage multiple projects concurrently, encompassing both smaller, repetitive tasks and larger, more complex packages.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Reviewing contracts, specifications, and client requirements upon project handover from estimating.
- Developing project schedules and managing delivery milestones in collaboration with engineering and operations.
- Managing the design team through the detailed engineering phase.
- Reviewing and approving engineering deliverables before client submission.
- Procuring equipment and materials to ensure optimal pricing and timely delivery to the factory floor.
- Coordinating workshop handovers and monitoring project progress through manufacturing.
- Submitting Requests for Information (RFIs), Extension of Time (EOT) claims, Notices of Delay (NODs), and variations as per contract requirements.
- Managing project budgets and cost forecasts.
- Coordinating Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) scheduling and supporting Quality Assurance (QA) and testing processes.
- Reporting project status to management.
- Maintaining strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience as a Project Manager, Project Engineer, or Project Coordinator within a switchboard manufacturing or closely related Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) electrical environment.
- Solid technical understanding of low-voltage switchboards, MCCs, and power distribution systems.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
- Some exposure to contract administration, including RFIs, EOTs, and variations.
- Commercial awareness with an understanding of budget and cost tracking.
- Strong client-facing and stakeholder communication skills.
- Familiarity with AS/NZS 61439 and relevant Australian standards.
