About the Role
As part of the Tony White Group, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Tax Accountant to join our Finance team. Working closely with the Tax Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the Group remains fully compliant with all State and Federal taxation obligations. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tax professional who enjoys a varied role, working across multiple entities while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external advisors. You will be involved in reviewing tax returns, providing technical guidance, assisting with tax-related projects, and supporting Financial Controllers across the Group. Key Responsibilities
As our Tax Accountant, your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing BAS, FBT, Payroll Tax and Income Tax returns to ensure compliance with State and Federal tax legislation.
- Assisting Financial Controllers and their teams with tax queries and providing practical, accurate advice.
- Reviewing and improving tax workpapers and reporting templates to standardise processes across the Group.
- Completing fixed asset reviews and reconciliations.
- Conducting tax research and providing technical guidance on complex tax matters.
- Monitoring tax lodgement deadlines to ensure all returns and payments are completed on time.
- Liaising with external tax advisors to review and finalise externally prepared tax returns.
- Assisting with ATO and State Revenue Office reviews, audits and enquiries.
- Supporting due diligence, mergers, acquisitions and business restructuring projects.
- Assisting with the implementation and improvement of tax systems and software.
- Delivering training and guidance to Financial Controllers and finance teams to improve tax knowledge and compliance.
- Supporting the Internal Audit team with tax-related reviews and reconciliations.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and other finance projects as required.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance.
- CA or CPA qualification, or be actively working towards completion.
- 3–5 years' experience in Corporate Tax or Public Practice.
- Strong knowledge of Australian tax legislation and statutory compliance requirements.
- Excellent tax research and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legislation.
- High attention to detail with strong investigative and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using cloud-based accounting and financial systems.
- A proactive attitude with a continuous improvement mindset.
- The ability to build strong working relationships across a diverse organisation.
