Technical Designer (CAD/CAM)
Talent Match Recruitment Pty Ltd is seeking a Technical Designer for a full-time, onsite role in Smithfield. The salary offered is circa $80k-$90k plus superannuation.
This opportunity is with a premium Australian Commercial Furniture Manufacturer that has been designing and producing custom and standard pieces in Sydney since 1989. Their work is featured in demanding workplace and government projects across the country.
The manufacturing division is expanding and seeking a mechanically minded, practical individual with a keenness to learn. This role is positioned within the design team, offering growth into a pivotal part of the product creation process.
This is a hands-on technical position based in the office at their state-of-the-art Smithfield manufacturing facility. You will work directly with the Lead Technical Designer, who will act as your mentor and a key resource for your success. Support, mentorship, and training in their systems and standards will be provided. The company values attitude and aptitude alongside practical experience.
The Role
- Translate design concepts and secured projects into detailed, manufacturing-ready drawings.
- Produce CNC/CAM files, cut lists, and nesting, preparing output for in-house CNC and nesting machines.
- Liaise with CNC operators regarding design specifications and best-practice processes.
- Collaborate with customers on client-specific designs and requirements.
- Liaise with suppliers concerning componentry and best practices.
- Work collaboratively with design and production teams to develop designs that are efficient, practical, and easy to manufacture.
- Contribute to refining drawing standards and workflows as the business expands.
About You
- Possess a qualification or background in industrial design, or a related design/drafting discipline; graduates are welcome to apply.
- Confident in 3D CAD design and modelling; experience with SolidWorks, Pytha, or a similar package is an advantage.
- Experience with, or a genuine appetite to learn, CAM software and manufacturing workflows.
- Demonstrate an eye for detail, accuracy, and a curiosity about manufacturing processes.
- Possess strong communication skills and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
- Exhibit energy, enthusiasm, good time management, and a proactive, problem-solving approach.
