Technical Tax Accountant / Compliance Officer
Sunshine Coast Accountant
Sunshine Coast Accountant is seeking an experienced Technical Tax Accountant / Compliance Officer to join our Woombye office. This is a part-time, onsite position.
We are looking for an individual who thrives on the technical aspects of tax and can serve as the technical foundation for our expanding firm. This role is not focused on client acquisition or networking; instead, your primary responsibilities will involve reviewing work, resolving intricate tax matters, providing support to our accounting team, and ensuring the technical accuracy of all advice disseminated by the firm. If you find satisfaction in dissecting complex client structures, investigating challenging legislation, and contributing to the professional growth of fellow accountants, we encourage you to apply. This position is designed for someone with a genuine passion for tax, allowing skilled accountants to concentrate on their core strengths.
What you'll be doing:
- Reviewing tax returns, financial statements, and work prepared by other accountants.
- Assisting the team with technical tax queries and complex bookkeeping challenges.
- Researching legislation and delivering practical tax advice.
- Working with client groups that include trusts, companies, SMSFs, and multiple entities.
- Identifying potential tax planning opportunities.
- Supporting internal training and coaching on technical issues.
- Enhancing processes and upholding high technical standards across the firm.
- Occasionally preparing complex tax work as needed.
What we're looking for:
- 7-8+ years of experience as a tax accountant in Australian public practice.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience reviewing the work of other accountants.
- Strong technical understanding of Australian tax legislation.
- Experience with complex client groups involving trusts, companies, and multiple entities.
- A demonstrated enjoyment of researching technical issues.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to communicate complex tax concepts clearly to other accountants.
This role may be for you if:
- You find enjoyment in reviewing tax rulings.
- You are adept at solving challenging assignments that others may avoid.
- You are frequently sought out by colleagues for tax-related questions.
- You prefer dedicating time to researching the correct answer over making assumptions.
- You enjoy mentoring other accountants without a desire for formal management responsibilities.
This role may not be for you if:
- You favour corporate accounting over public practice.
- Your preference is to spend the majority of your day networking or client development.
- You are seeking a people management role.
- You dislike reviewing the work of others.
We offer:
- Flexible working arrangements, including negotiable days and times.
- A supportive and collaborative team environment.
- Engaging and technically challenging work.
- A Friday finish at 3 pm.
- Ongoing professional development opportunities.
- The chance to influence the firm's technical direction.
