The City of Prospect, a progressive and innovative council situated near the Adelaide CBD, is seeking a Traffic Engineer to join its dynamic team. This newly established permanent part-time role (0.6 FTE) aims to enhance the council's traffic, parking, and permit services and support the delivery of key transport initiatives within the city.

As the Traffic Engineer, you will collaborate with the Senior Traffic Engineer to manage the City of Prospect's traffic, parking, and permit functions. Your role will involve providing professional traffic engineering expertise to achieve effective traffic management outcomes for the community. This position offers variety, with responsibilities including permit assessments, handling customer inquiries, engaging in community consultation, and contributing to signage, line marking, and traffic programs, while working with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess Section 221 permit applications and review associated Traffic Management Plans, adhering to Council policies and delegations. This includes liaising with applicants and contractors regarding traffic management requirements for construction activities.
• Provide assistance with the annual line marking program, signage renewal and update program, traffic data count program, and other traffic-related initiatives.
• Undertake parking and traffic consultations, which involve on-site reviews, preparing consultation materials, and reviewing results before implementation.
• Review customer requests (CRMs) concerning parking, traffic, line marking, and signage issues, conduct site visits as needed, and formulate responses.
• Support the Senior Traffic Engineer in delivering Council’s traffic, parking, and permit functions and meeting agreed service levels.

About You:

• You possess exceptional and highly developed customer service skills, with a focus on negotiating with relevant parties to achieve positive outcomes.
• You have sound knowledge of Australian Road Rules, Regulations, Acts, and standards pertaining to traffic, construction, and design activities, as well as knowledge of traffic and car parking design principles and practices.
• You hold a tertiary qualification in civil engineering, traffic engineering, transport planning, traffic and transport management, or a related discipline, and have experience in a similar role.
