Waterways Engineer Sutherland Shire Council Sutherland Full-time, Onsite
Sutherland Shire Council is seeking a Waterways Engineer to join its Strategic Asset Management team. This role is an opportunity to contribute to the protection and enhancement of one of Sydney's unique natural environments, focusing on water resources, stormwater management, and sustainable community outcomes.
The Waterways Engineer will be instrumental in delivering projects and strategies aimed at improving water quality, managing flood risks, enhancing stormwater infrastructure, and safeguarding waterways for future generations. This position allows for the application of technical expertise to influence long-term planning and achieve tangible community benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the planning and delivery of initiatives concerning waterways, stormwater, floodplain management, and catchment health.
- Provide expert engineering advice to internal stakeholders, consultants, and the community.
- Oversee consultants and technical studies, including hydraulic and flood modelling.
- Develop engineering guidelines, policies, and strategic plans.
- Prepare grant applications to secure funding for community projects.
- Contribute to asset management, infrastructure planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
About You:
The ideal candidate is an engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges and collaborates effectively to produce practical, sustainable solutions. You possess strong technical abilities, excellent communication skills, and enjoy fostering positive relationships within multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Environmental), a related degree, or nearing completion.
- Experience in stormwater or floodplain management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A current NSW Class C Driver’s Licence.

Package: $99,569 - $105,544 gross per annum, plus 12% superannuation. Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week. A 19-day month option is available through Council's flex system.
