Job Description

Administration Assistant | Western Sydney District

Department of Communities and Justice

Location: Blacktown Work Type: Full-time Salary: $70,694 to $76,857 per annum, plus superannuation and annual leave loading.

The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) directly supports approximately 800,000 individuals annually and reaches an additional million people through community-based programs. Our Housing Service branch is among the world's largest providers of social housing.

This temporary, 12-month opportunity is for an Administration Assistant within Housing Services Homes NSW. A talent pool for the Western Sydney District will be created from this recruitment process.

Your Role

As a Business Support Assistant in a high-pressure environment, you will support team members and the operational unit. You will administer mailboxes for the Western Sydney District and act as a liaison between Client Service Teams and relevant stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include managing all administrative tasks, responding to administrative enquiries, and assisting the team by distributing workloads from Outlook mailboxes and other internal systems to appropriate team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the team's effective operations through administrative services, including filing, mail handling, register maintenance, photocopying, document completion, routine purchasing, and event support.
  • Collect and compile information for document and report development.
  • Respond to enquiries and escalate matters as necessary to ensure accurate information is provided.
  • Maintain updated, accurate records and databases in accordance with records management processes.
  • Perform data entry into specialised software, including processing rent and water usage payments.
  • Manage correspondence from agents/landlords concerning routine inspections, smoke alarm inspections, and maintenance requests.
  • Handle rent adjustments, account enquiries, and vendor management.

What We're Looking For

In addition to the essential requirements, the successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • The ability to work under pressure with high work volumes while maintaining business support.
  • Attention to detail to deliver accurate and consistent work.
  • Experience providing customer service to various clients.

We focus on hiring individuals who share our commitment and goals of inclusion, collaboration, adaptability, courage, and integrity. If you meet the essential requirements and the role resonates with you, please apply; meeting every desired requirement is not necessary for us to consider your application.

What We Offer

We provide a range of benefits, including:

  • A challenging and rewarding career.
  • A flexible, autonomous work environment.
  • Competitive pay and conditions.
  • Training and development opportunities to build and maintain capabilities.
  • Health & Wellbeing and Employee Assistance Programs.

Working for DCJ

Working for the Department of Communities and Justice offers numerous opportunities to make a significant difference. We collaborate with other agencies and community partners to improve lives and realise the potential of children, adults, families, and communities. Our focus is on breaking disadvantage, not just managing it.

To Apply

Click 'Apply' and attach a cover letter (maximum 2 pages) detailing how you meet the role's requirements, along with an up-to-date resume (maximum 5 pages). You will also need to provide responses to the following two target questions:

  • Provide an example of a time when you provided administrative services to multiple clients in a high-pressure environment.
  • Provide an example of your ability to use technology and apply records management procedures to maximise efficiencies and effectiveness.

Applications close 11:59pm AEST Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
