Location: Rockhampton Work Type: Casual On-site/Remote: On-site

This casual role within the Emergency Department offers a pivotal position as the initial point of contact for patients and their families, providing comprehensive administrative and customer service support within a demanding 24/7 setting. Your contributions will be instrumental in maintaining patient flow and safety through the management of admissions, discharges, and transfers, alongside the meticulous upkeep of hospital system records. About Us:

Rockhampton Hospital is a 305-bed facility and serves as the primary referral hospital for Central Queensland. It now provides integrated cancer care services within a newly established building equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment. Other key hospitals within the health service include Gladstone, Emerald, Yeppoon, and Biloela, along with numerous smaller rural units that transfer patients to Rockhampton for specialist care and investigations.

About the Role:

  • Provide high-level administrative and customer service support within the 24/7 Emergency Department, ensuring patients, families, and visitors receive prompt and appropriate assistance.
  • Support patient flow and safety by accurately managing admissions, discharges, transfers, and registrations within hospital information systems.
  • Conduct patient interviews to confirm personal and financial details, assisting with the completion of required documentation such as Patient Election Forms.
  • Serve as a key communication point by managing reception enquiries, phone calls, and coordinating information between clinical staff, patients, and external agencies.
  • Maintain professionalism, accuracy, and composure in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, adhering to policies, confidentiality requirements, and data quality standards.

About You:

  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and sound judgement to resolve issues in fast-paced or unpredictable situations where procedures may not be clearly defined.
  • Strong proficiency in computerised systems and digital applications to support accurate and efficient administrative processes.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team in a high-pressure, dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to engage professionally, sensitively, and respectfully with patients, staff, and the public.
  • Solid understanding of privacy, confidentiality, and compliance requirements, with the ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations following established protocols.

What We Offer:

  • An hourly rate between $49.97 - $55.57 p.h. (Including 25% Casual Loading)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution.
