Administration Officer (Legal) - Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service
The Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service (TALS) is seeking an Administration Officer to join its Criminal Law team in Launceston. This full-time, onsite position offers a salary range of $67,626 – $72,828 per year.
This role provides an opportunity to apply your administrative expertise in a meaningful capacity, supporting lawyers who deliver culturally appropriate legal services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals across Tasmania.
About TALS TALS provides culturally appropriate legal advice, advocacy, and representation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout Tasmania. Services are offered across criminal law, child safety, and family law, with a focus on improving access to justice and achieving positive community outcomes. TALS also operates a dedicated Family Violence Prevention Legal Service, SiS, for victim/survivors of family violence and sexual assault. About the Role As the Administration Officer, you will deliver high-quality administrative support to the Criminal Law team in Launceston. You will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the office and providing professional, culturally respectful, and client-focused service.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing legal correspondence, reports, and other documentation.
- Managing electronic and physical client files.
- Coordinating appointments and providing administrative support to lawyers.
- Responding to telephone and email enquiries.
- Greeting clients and visitors, offering a professional and welcoming first point of contact.
- Maintaining accurate records and assisting with general office administration.
- Supporting the Criminal Law team with various administrative tasks as required.

About You To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- A minimum of two years' experience in an administrative role within a professional services setting. Experience in a legal environment will be highly regarded.
- Excellent Microsoft Office proficiency and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the capacity to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- A professional, approachable, and confidential demeanour.
- A strong customer service focus and the ability to communicate effectively and with empathy to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- An understanding of, or a willingness to develop an understanding of, the social issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, alongside a genuine respect for Aboriginal culture.
