Location: Scottsdale, Tasmania Work Type: Full-time Salary: $105,000 p.a. negotiable

Dorset Council, a local government organisation in North East Tasmania, is seeking a Corporate Administration Manager. The organisation is focused on improving its systems, processes, and people practices to foster a contemporary, efficient, and customer-focused approach while continuing to deliver essential services. This role is for an individual who thrives on leading teams, enhancing systems, and bringing structure and clarity to corporate administration.

About the Role:

This full-time position involves leading Dorset Council’s Corporate Administration team to ensure the delivery of accurate, professional, and responsive services. In a small Council setting, the role blends team leadership with hands-on involvement across a range of functions including customer service, records management, rates, property, contracts, insurance, risk, and statutory compliance.

Working in close collaboration with the Director – Corporate Services, the Corporate Administration Manager will be instrumental in ensuring Corporate Services operates as a practical and effective internal support function. The position is responsible for maintaining high service standards through effective coordination, robust governance, administrative systems, continuous improvement, and the timely execution of key priorities.

The successful applicant will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading, coaching, and developing teams within a professional service, administration, customer service, corporate services, or local government context.
  • The ability to cultivate a positive, accountable, and customer-focused team culture.
  • Proven capability in allocating work, managing competing priorities, and supporting staff to achieve organisational objectives.
  • Experience in leading process improvement initiatives and driving practical change.
  • Strong written communication skills, enabling the preparation of clear, accurate, and professional reports, policies, procedures, correspondence, briefing notes, and supporting documents.
  • A keen attention to detail, with the capacity to maintain accurate records, track deadlines, monitor actions, and ensure timely and proper completion of work.
  • Sound judgement and problem-solving skills, including the ability to consider context, risks, and impacts before making recommendations or escalating matters.
  • Experience coordinating administration, customer service, records, property, agreements, events, or similar corporate support functions.
  • The ability to liaise professionally with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including community members, Councillors, Council employees, vendors, contractors, and professional advisers.
  • A practical approach to process improvement, including the development and maintenance of work instructions, templates, procedures, and tracking systems.
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 and the ability to support the effective use of corporate systems and digital tools.
  • The capacity to remain calm, discreet, and professional when managing competing priorities, sensitive matters, or challenging conversations.
  • A proactive, organised, and collaborative approach, with strong follow-through and a focus on delivering practical outcomes.

Essential Requirements:

  • Certificate IV in Business, Administration, Leadership, Governance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in senior administration, corporate services, customer service, or team leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supervising staff.
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365.
  • Current driver licence, or ability to travel as required.

Desirable:

  • Local government or corporate services experience.
  • Diploma or higher qualification in Business, Leadership, Governance, Risk, Compliance, or a related field.
  • Experience preparing reports, policies, procedures, or complex correspondence.
  • Knowledge of or training in records, rates, facilities, property, contracts, or risk.
  • Knowledge of local government governance and statutory administration processes.
