The Opportunity

This role offers qualified teachers a chance to apply their skills in a unique setting, providing one-to-one instruction to vulnerable young people in residential care. The objective is to facilitate re-engagement with education, enhance attendance, and improve retention, ultimately contributing to better life outcomes for these young people. You will be responsible for implementing customised educational programs designed to meet individual needs, focusing on intensive literacy and numeracy support to help young people realise their full potential. Collaboration with the young person's Care Team, which may include carers, case managers, school staff, and other professionals, will be a key aspect of this role.

We are seeking individuals with:

  • A tertiary qualification in Education.
  • Current FULL VIT registration.
  • A minimum of 4 years of teaching experience.
  • An understanding of supporting secondary school-aged young people in re-engaging with education or vocational pathways. Experience and networks within these sectors are desirable.
  • A current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) full registration and a current driver's license are mandatory.
  • The capacity to develop and implement individual learning plans for children and young people who have faced significant educational disruption and present with complex psychological and social needs.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and young people with complex needs, including an understanding of how trauma impacts learning.
  • The ability to utilise educational assessment tools and data to guide planning and practice.
  • The ability to adapt to a changing environment with competing priorities, manage stressful situations, monitor personal stress levels, and implement and promote self-care strategies.
  • Demonstrated expertise or transferable skills to actively contribute to a multidisciplinary team, which may include specialists in Alcohol and Other Drugs, Therapeutic Specialists, Case Managers, Youth Justice, and Community Youth Workers.
  • An understanding of the Educational Partnering Agreement and other State Government Educational initiatives for children in out-of-home care, such as the LOOKOUT Centres.
  • Demonstrated experience in de-escalation strategies and mental health awareness.

What this role offers:

  • Salary: Full-time equivalent of $111,051 per annum ($56.20 per hour), plus 12% superannuation and salary packaging benefits.
  • Work Schedule: Part-time, 22.8 hours per week.
  • Employment Term: Fixed term until June 30th, 2027.
