Recruitflex is partnering with UGL to offer a First Nations Traineeship within their Telecommunications division. UGL is a prominent provider of engineering, construction, operation, and maintenance services across various sectors including rail, transport, communications, oil and gas, power, renewables, resources, water, and defence. As part of the CIMIC Group, UGL has a significant national presence and collaborates with major corporations, government bodies, private enterprises, and public institutions. This traineeship supports UGL’s Reconciliation Action Plan, aiming to foster culturally safe workplaces, meaningful career prospects, and sustained employment for First Nations peoples.

The Role

As a Project Support Trainee, you will provide comprehensive support to field management staff in the Telecommunications division. Concurrently, you will undertake a Certificate III in Business during your initial twelve months of employment. The field management team oversees the installation of telecommunications infrastructure in regional areas. Your responsibilities will include:

• Travelling to construction sites between Adelaide and Alice Springs.
• Assisting with site inspections to ensure adherence to standards and specifications.
• Conducting and documenting inspections.
• Verifying that works align with project specifications and construction plans.
• Submitting reports on compliance, defects, and risks.
• Updating work logs.
• Communicating with landowners regarding project progress.
• Assisting with crop compensation paperwork.
• Collaborating with Project Managers, construction teams, and contractors to address issues or risks.
• Performing associated administrative tasks.

Full on-the-job training will be provided, complemented by your Certificate III studies.

Note: This role requires regular travel to regional locations with a colleague for up to four nights per week (Monday to Friday). UGL will cover all travel, accommodation, and meal expenses.

Setting You Up for Success

UGL is committed to ensuring you commence your traineeship with confidence. In your first week of employment (commencing 10th August), you and fellow trainees will travel to Sydney for an orientation program. This will include meeting managers and peers, learning about UGL, undertaking initial training, and participating in cultural immersion activities, all organised and fully funded by UGL.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Previous experience is not required, as this formal traineeship will equip you with in-depth training in administration, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, and more. To be successful in this position, you must:

• Feel comfortable interpreting technical drawings/plans.
• Have previous experience using spreadsheets or similar computer software at a basic level.
• Be comfortable with regular travel, including road and air travel, and potential stays away from home.
• Be organised and manage your time efficiently.
• Possess very high attention to detail.
• Enjoy working as part of a team.
• Hold a current driver's license.
• Either hold or be prepared to obtain a White Card (site safety). UGL will fund this if necessary.
