About Julia Gillard Community College: We provide flexible education and learning options for students aged 15-19 years who have faced challenges and barriers to learning. Our offerings include the Victorian Pathway Certificate (VPC) and VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM). We foster a safe and inclusive learning environment for young people who may have disengaged or are at risk of disengaging from mainstream education, including those from refugee and migrant communities. Julia Gillard Community College is a registered Special Assistance School (SAS) overseen by the Board of Wyndham Community and Education Centre (Wyndham CEC). Registered in late December 2023 and commencing operations in January 2024, it became an Independent School after operating for 18 years as a Non-School Senior Secondary School Provider (NSSSP). Wyndham CEC, an Incorporated Association and registered charity under the ACNC with its head office in Werribee, is the proprietor of the School. The organisation has provided services to the communities of Wyndham, western Melbourne, Geelong, and Ararat since 1974. As one of Victoria’s largest Adult & Community Education providers, it leads in supporting individuals and communities to create positive future changes. In addition to education programs, Wyndham CEC offers a range of quality community, settlement, and employment programs.

About the Role: This position involves creating and delivering learning curriculum for the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) and Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major (VCE VM), focusing on quality teaching and assessment. The role supports student engagement in learning. The Classroom Teacher will be part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing and maintaining a classroom learning environment that prioritises student learning and wellbeing. Collaboration with peers and the leading specialist teacher will occur within a team that regularly reviews program performance and promotes a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess learning, including excursions and other activities, against the approved curriculum for VPC or VCE VM, encompassing Literacy, Numeracy, PDS, WRS, and elective options as directed.
  • Identify and monitor student needs, utilising this data to inform teaching approaches for differentiated, individualised teaching and learning to enhance student educational outcomes.
  • Ensure all student wellbeing and educational notes, reports, Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) obligations, and Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) records are entered and maintained.
  • Liaise with wellbeing staff and education support staff regarding student wellbeing and educational needs to facilitate successful participation and post-secondary transitions/pathways.
  • Report learning progress informally and formally to parents/carers and the leadership team.
  • Participate in regular supervision, whole school meetings, performance review processes, and professional learning as required.
  • Deliver services within the framework of school policies and procedures, legislative requirements, and relevant service standards.
  • Comply with legal obligations for registered teachers concerning child safety, risk, and inclusion.
  • Supervise students and perform additional duties as per allocated rosters/timetables and as directed by the principal.

Selection Criteria: Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Experience teaching Literacy and/or EAL within senior secondary programs such as VPC, VCE VM, VCAL, or similar applied learning settings.
  • Ability to engage and support diverse learners, including young people who may have experienced barriers to education, trauma, disengagement, or come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Commitment to differentiated teaching, using student data to plan learning that meets individual needs and improves educational outcomes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, wellbeing staff, and education support staff to achieve positive outcomes for students.

Essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent in a related discipline.
  • Current Victorian Institute of Teaching registration.
  • Satisfactory completion of safety screening, including a National Police check, International Police check (if required), and the right to work in Australia.

Desirable:

  • Current Training and Assessment (TAE) qualifications for teaching of VETDSS programs.
