Location: Mareeba Work Type: Full-time Salary: $77,250 to $97,991 per annum Work Arrangement: On-site

Queensland Corrective Services is seeking a Mental Health Adviser (Counsellor) to join their team in Mareeba. This full-time, on-site position offers a salary between $77,250 and $97,991 per annum.

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Conduct screening for mental health, disability, and suicide or self-harm risk in offenders, and accurately record this information.
  • Complete referrals to both internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Respond to offender requests for support concerning welfare needs, collaborating with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver individual or group interventions focused on skill acquisition to develop coping mechanisms and build resilience.
  • Provide case management for individuals presenting with mental health issues, disabilities, or other vulnerabilities. This includes effective time management and prioritisation, managing clinical and non-clinical responsibilities, and maintaining precise records and documentation.
  • Engage in evidence-based practices pertinent to the prevention of suicide and self-harm behaviours.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of contemporary offender rehabilitation research and practices, as well as legislation, policy, and procedures related to offender management.
  • Participate in professional supervision and development activities, including team meetings.
  • As part of a multi-disciplinary unit, offer consultancy services to and accept referrals from other unit members, such as Psychologists/Mental Health Clinicians, Education Officers, Program Delivery Officers, and Custodial Correctional Officers.
  • Ensure the maintenance, accuracy, and appropriateness of records for designated authorities.
  • Ensure data for the Integrated Offender Management system (IOMS) is accurate and current.
  • Uphold the safety and security of yourself and others, and ensure the security and confidentiality of Queensland Corrective Services property and information.
  • Liaise with and cultivate productive relationships with external service providers to optimise offender community integration, adhering to the highest standards of community safety.
  • Provide advice to appropriate authorities concerning community re-integration and parole processes.
  • Offer timely advice to offenders regarding available services and community expectations.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge concerning services available for offenders.
