Merchandising Director
One Octave Pty Ltd is looking for a Merchandising Director with extensive experience and a commercial drive to guide product acquisition and assortment planning for its luxury home décor and lifestyle retail operations.
About the Role
The Merchandising Director will be tasked with developing an engaging product selection that aligns with the brand and appeals to a discerning customer base. This position encompasses the entire merchandising process, from planning seasonal collections and negotiating with vendors to setting pricing and managing inventory. The goal is to ensure all product choices reflect a dedication to design quality and curated luxury.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement seasonal buying and assortment strategies for living, dining, bedroom, bath, and lifestyle categories.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with international luxury and design brands, including negotiating terms, pricing, and exclusivity arrangements.
- Oversee stock levels, open-to-buy budgets, and sell-through performance to optimise profitability.
- Ensure product assortments align with brand positioning, customer demand, and current design trends.
- Work collaboratively with marketing, visual merchandising, and operations teams for unified product presentation and campaign coordination.
- Analyse sales data and market trends to inform future buying decisions and identify underperforming product lines for discontinuation.
- Source and integrate new brands that enhance the current portfolio.
About You
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in a buying, merchandising, or product management role within the premium or luxury retail sector.
- Demonstrated experience working with internationally recognised luxury lifestyle or home design brands.
- Proven ability to manage multi-brand assortments spanning tableware, decorative objects, furniture, or lifestyle goods.
- Strong commercial understanding, including experience managing open-to-buy budgets, margin targets, and stock turn KPIs.
- Established connections with international suppliers and distributors, with experience in import logistics and brand partnership agreements.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication abilities.
- A genuine enthusiasm for luxury interiors, design objects, and contemporary lifestyle retail.
Desirable
- Experience with both physical retail and e-commerce channels.
- Familiarity with Shopify or similar retail platforms.
- Prior exposure to the Australian luxury retail market.
