Job Description

Rostering Manager

St Basil's Homes

Lakemba

Full-time, Onsite

St Basil's is dedicated to enhancing the lives of older individuals with dignity, compassion, and connection. As a not-for-profit organisation operating four residential aged care homes, home and community services, and day centres, we recognise that exceptional care is contingent upon having the appropriate personnel in the correct locations at the opportune moments.

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Rostering Manager to spearhead our rostering operations and advance workforce optimisation across our varied and expanding aged care organisation. This position is well-suited for a workforce planning and rostering professional who thrives on leading teams, collaborating with operational leaders, and implementing workforce strategies that bolster both the quality of care and organisational resilience.

You will work collaboratively with Residential Managers, Home and Community leaders, Talent Acquisition, Finance, and the broader People, Engagement & Culture team to ensure effective planning, allocation, and management of workforce resources. Your role will be pivotal in supporting care minute targets, workforce compliance, service continuity, employee experience, and cost-efficient operations. This is a prominent leadership role offering tangible impact, ideal for a seasoned rostering professional capable of strategic thinking while maintaining a hands-on, operational focus.

What You Will Lead

  • Champion a customer-focused and high-performing rostering function throughout the organisation.
  • Lead, develop, and manage a dedicated rostering team.
  • Oversee end-to-end rostering, workforce allocation, and shift coverage across Residential Aged Care, Home and Community Services, and other service areas.
  • Drive workforce optimisation initiatives to ensure the right people, possessing the right skills, are positioned appropriately and at the right times.
  • Partner with operational leaders to achieve care minute targets, enhance workforce utilisation, and sustain service continuity.
  • Collaborate closely with Talent Acquisition to support workforce sustainability, manage vacancies, and assist with recruitment planning.
  • Monitor and refine key workforce metrics, including overtime, agency usage, labour costs, leave liabilities, and roster efficiency.
  • Lead workforce forecasting and planning endeavours to support organisational expansion and operational demands.
  • Ensure rosters adhere to Enterprise Agreements, Modern Awards, National Employment Standards, visa conditions, and pertinent legislation.
  • Conduct regular roster audits to verify legislative compliance, workforce governance, and operational effectiveness.
  • Monitor employees working under visa restrictions and confirm adherence to work rights obligations.
  • Identify, implement, and embed continuous improvement measures to elevate rostering efficiency and workforce performance.
  • Deliver precise workforce reporting, analysis, and insights to inform business decisions and workforce strategies.
  • Cultivate robust relationships with key stakeholders across operations, People & Culture, and external partners.
  • Provide training and support to leaders and employees on the effective utilisation of rostering systems and workforce management tools.
  • Contribute to broader People, Engagement & Culture initiatives and organisational improvement projects.

About You

You are an experienced leader in rostering and workforce planning, possessing the capacity to manage competing priorities, analyse intricate workforce challenges, and establish strong relationships across all organisational levels. You combine substantial operational acumen with a strategic perspective and are committed to developing workforce solutions that underpin quality care outcomes, employee wellbeing, and organisational effectiveness.

You Bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading rostering, workforce planning, or scheduling functions within a complex, multi-site organisation.
  • A strong understanding of rostering principles, workforce allocation, and service optimisation.
  • Proven experience in leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Sound knowledge of Enterprise Agreements, Awards, National Employment Standards, and employment legislation.
  • Experience managing workforce compliance requirements and governance obligations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret workforce data and drive informed decision-making.
  • Experience in workforce forecasting, reporting, and planning.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to influence and collaborate effectively with leaders and employees at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution capabilities.
  • Experience within aged care, health, community services, disability, or another highly regulated environment (highly regarded).

Why St Basil's

  • A role with meaningful impact on workforce sustainability and the delivery of quality care.
  • Opportunity to influence rostering and workforce outcomes across diverse service streams.
  • A values-driven organisation.
