School Support Officer - Defence Force Mentor
Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong is seeking a School Support Officer - Defence Force Mentor for a temporary part-time position at St Michael's Catholic Parish Primary School, Nowra. This role operates onsite in Nowra, NSW, for 30 hours per fortnight.
This Australian Defence Force (ADF) funded position, commencing 20 July 2026 and concluding 2 July 2027, is dedicated to supporting students and families impacted by their connection to an ADF member. The successful candidate will facilitate community connections for students, foster resilience, alleviate anxieties, and contribute to positive academic and social outcomes.
Essential Selection Criteria:
- A demonstrated commitment to the mission and purpose of Catholic Schools within the wider community.
- Knowledge of the Defence Force lifestyle.
- Knowledge of and proven ability to implement wellbeing principles for children.
- Possession of appropriate qualifications and/or relevant experience.
- Capacity to effectively plan, organise, and deliver innovative and creative programs, resources, and activities relevant to Defence Force students, families, and the school community.
- Strong initiative, with the ability to self-organise, prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to identify confidential matters as they arise and handle them with the necessary sensitivity.
- Demonstrated high-level oral and written communication skills, enabling effective interaction with a diverse range of individuals including students, the school principal, school staff, parents, Defence Force members, and their families.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Google suite applications.

- A customer service orientation.
- A demonstrated positive attitude towards innovation and change.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Certificate III in Classroom Support or an equivalent qualification.
Working With Children Clearance:
This role is classified as child-related work, necessitating a Working With Children Clearance prior to commencement.
