Secretary/Personal Assistant

16 Quay Central Chambers is seeking a Secretary/Personal Assistant to join our chambers in Brisbane QLD. This is a full-time, onsite position.

This role involves providing administrative and secretarial support to members of our chambers. It is an ideal opportunity for an individual with some office experience to commence or advance a career in legal administration within a professional chambers environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide secretarial and administrative support to up to 7 barristers, collaborating with the chambers manager.
  • Manage correspondence, including typing, formatting, and distributing documents and communications.
  • Maintain physical and digital filing systems, ensuring accurate record-keeping and document organisation.
  • Schedule appointments and meetings for barristers, managing calendar systems.
  • Answer telephone enquiries professionally and direct calls appropriately.
  • Process invoices, maintain financial records, and assist with accounts administration.
  • Undertake general office duties such as data entry, photocopying, printing, and distributing materials.
  • Contribute to the smooth operation of chambers by identifying and resolving administrative issues.
  • Assist all members of chambers when other secretarial staff are on leave or unavailable.

What We're Looking For:

  • An enthusiastic and proactive attitude.
  • A high school certificate or equivalent qualification, with strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Organisational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with professional presentation.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when handling important documentation and correspondence.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently when required.
  • Discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive legal information.
  • Professional demeanour and customer service orientation.
  • Office experience (minimum 1 year) is required.

About Us:

16 Quay Central Chambers is a leading commercial barristers' chambers in Brisbane, Queensland, and is one of Brisbane's longest-established commercial sets. Our barristers practice across a wide range of areas, with a focus on commercial, corporate, insolvency, and public law. We currently have 11 members of chambers and 3 readers. From approximately September 2026, we will expand across two floors, accommodating 20 members, supported by a chambers manager/senior secretary, a senior secretary, and a part-time law student. This role is an additional position to the existing 3 staff members.

Salary: $65,000 – $85,000 per year (commensurate with experience).

Location: Brisbane QLD 4000.

Work Type: Full-time, onsite.
