The Faculty of Engineering at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Urban and Regional Planning Systems to join the School of Architecture and Built Environment.

About the Role

This position involves significant engagement in research and teaching focused on advancing sustainable development goals within urban and regional settings. The successful candidate will bring a critical perspective on planning at the systems scale and demonstrate the ability to apply evidence-based, collaborative actions to achieve social, economic, and environmental outcomes. A recognised expertise in any field relevant to urban and regional planning systems is required. This could encompass areas such as food planning, metropolitan planning, urban governance, First Nations communities infrastructure planning, or climate adaptation planning, among others.

The role requires a highly motivated academic passionate about innovative teaching and delivering research outcomes that substantially address local and global issues, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, climate change, and inequality. The position will involve strong engagement with the School's Built Environment education program and leadership in significant research partnerships with internal and external collaborators.

What You Need to Succeed (Level C)

• Completion of a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent accreditation or standing.
• Demonstrated expertise and track record in teaching and research in planning at a systems level, potentially including areas such as land use systems and planning, structural design, infrastructure, urban policy and governance, ecological sustainability, or other relevant planning systems.
• Membership (or eligibility for membership) of the Planning Institute of Australia and demonstrated expertise as a practicing Urban or Regional Planner will be regarded favourably.
• Effective leadership in the successful development and delivery of research projects.
• Demonstrated experience initiating, developing, and maintaining research excellence, evidenced by high-quality publications, success in attracting competitive external research funding, and successful supervision of student research projects, including PhD completions.
• Demonstrated track record in high-quality, real-world teaching, including unit/course coordination, with an ability to develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
• Demonstrated capacity to teach classes in the professionally oriented Urban and Regional Planning Major.
• Demonstrated networks and experience in leading the development of impactful partnerships with industry, professional associations, government, or community groups in research and teaching.
• Demonstrated capacity to lead self and embrace change to improve personal and organisational effectiveness, and to cooperate.
