Senior Lecturer, Power Engineering

Curtin University is seeking an outstanding academic to join the School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences (EECMS) as a Senior Lecturer in Power Engineering. This full-time, onsite role is based in Bentley.

About the Role

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to both teaching and research within the School. As a researcher, you will lead and contribute to impactful projects focused on power systems with high renewable energy penetration. You will actively collaborate with industry partners, pursue competitive research funding, and disseminate your findings through high-quality journal publications.

In teaching, you will deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and postgraduate students. You will contribute to curriculum innovation, develop learning materials, and supervise honours, coursework, and higher-degree research students. Your leadership and service will foster a collegial environment, contribute to academic governance, and engage with the wider professional community.

Responsibilities

  • Research:
  • Undertake nationally and internationally competitive and high-quality research in electric power systems.
  • Actively seek and act as co- or chief investigator in applications for competitive research grants and/or fellowships and publish in high-quality refereed journals.
  • Supervise research students and disseminate research findings through seminars, workshops and conferences.
  • Work towards international recognition for research in power engineering.
  • Teaching:
  • Deliver innovative and high-quality teaching to undergraduate, honours and postgraduate students.
  • Lead tutorials, practicals, and workshops to enhance student learning.
  • Develop curriculum, assess student work, and coordinate units.
  • Supervise honours and postgraduate coursework students.
  • Engagement & Leadership:
  • Foster a collegial and supportive academic environment.
  • Engage with industry, professional networks, and the community.
  • Contribute to academic governance and internal service roles.

Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications:
  • A doctoral qualification (PhD) in electrical engineering focusing on power systems, or a closely related discipline.
  • Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
  • Demonstrated research excellence in power systems engineering, evidenced by a strong track record of high-quality publications, successful research outcomes, and contributions that advance knowledge and practice in the field.
  • Evidence of an established national reputation and a developing international profile in Power Engineering, including success in securing research funding through competitive grants, industry-funded projects, fellowships, or related research initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide research leadership, including supervising HDR students to successful completion, mentoring early-career academics, and developing research collaborations.
  • Demonstrated leadership in learning and teaching, including experience in course, major, or program coordination, curriculum development and continuous improvement, and the design and delivery of innovative, high-quality learning experiences at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, particularly in Power Engineering-related areas.
  • Demonstrated engagement with industry, professional bodies, and external stakeholders, with the ability to establish productive partnerships that enhance research, teaching, and graduate employability.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students, staff, and external stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Role Requirements

  • As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia. International candidates eligible for a relevant visa may be considered.

Salary

$144,512 - $166,354 (ALC) + 17% superannuation.
