Simulation Actors - Box Hill Institute (Contract)

Box Hill Institute is seeking Simulation Actors for casual opportunities to bring real stories to life and make learning matter. This role involves delivering realistic client interactions for students studying Community Services. It offers a unique chance to blend performance, empathy, and communication skills to create authentic learning experiences that equip students for real-world practice.

As a Simulation Actor, you will portray various community service and mental health clients. This will assist future practitioners in developing their assessment, engagement, communication, and support skills before undertaking industry placements. This role is more than just acting; it's a direct contribution to workforce readiness within the community services sector.

This is a casual contract position, onsite in Box Hill. Remuneration is attractive, supplemented by campus perks. The hourly rate is $69.54, with an additional 12% superannuation.

About the Role

Community Services students require practical experience engaging with clients in complex and challenging situations. Realistic simulations enable students to build confidence, professionalism, and critical thinking skills in a safe learning environment. Your performance and feedback will be vital in helping students become capable, compassionate, and industry-ready professionals.

What You'll Do:

  • Portray realistic community services and mental health clients.
  • Support student learning by helping them practice client engagement, interviewing, assessment, and support skills.
  • Contribute to a psychologically safe and professional learning environment.
  • Respond naturally to student interactions while maintaining scenario integrity.
  • Share insights from the client's perspective.
  • Provide constructive feedback on the interaction experience.
  • Assist assessors in understanding the effectiveness of student communication and engagement approaches.

About You:

  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence performing character-based role plays.
  • Ability to maintain consistency within scripted or semi-structured scenarios.
  • Ability to adapt to different client presentations and scenarios.
  • Experience facilitating workshops, simulations, or assessment activities is desirable.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and person-centred approaches is desirable.
  • Professionalism and reliability.

Requirements:

  • Must possess, or be willing to obtain, a Victorian Working with Children Check and National Police Check clearance.
