GKR Transport is seeking a dependable and diligent Yard Hand to join our active Welshpool depot. This is a practical, physically demanding position where your attitude, effort, and eagerness to acquire new skills are as valued as prior experience.

A background in transport is not a prerequisite. Previous involvement in transport, logistics, freight, yard operations, or manual labour would be viewed favourably. However, your reliability, commitment to safety, willingness to learn, and readiness to actively participate are paramount.

This role involves constant activity, requiring you to be on your feet throughout the depot. Your responsibilities will include moving pallets, handling straps and chains, operating tautliner curtains, folding tarps, repositioning gates, maintaining yard cleanliness, and assisting drivers and operational staff.

The depot environment is fast-paced and high-volume. We require an alert individual who can follow directions, seek clarification when needed, work safely, and demonstrate pride in their work. Early starts and extended shifts are characteristic of this role, with hours often exceeding 12 to ensure linehaul and local trucks are prepared for dispatch.

Pay Rate: $31.77 per hour, with a flat rate applicable up to 50 hours. Superannuation is paid on all hours up to 50.

Your Responsibilities: As a Yard Hand at GKR Transport, your duties will be hands-on and diverse, including:

• Performing general labouring tasks within the yard.
• Opening and closing tautliner curtains.
• Moving truck gates.
• Safely and efficiently applying straps and restraints to freight.
• Folding, moving, and undoing tarps.
• Restacking and sorting pallets.
• Relocating chains and other freight equipment.
• Maintaining yard cleanliness, encompassing sweeping, rubbish removal, and general upkeep.
• Ensuring the yard remains clean, organised, and free from hazards at all times.
• Providing support to drivers and operations personnel as needed.

• Has experience in transport, logistics, freight, yard work, or manual labour – this is preferred but not essential.
• Holds a forklift licence, or is willing to obtain one – this is advantageous but not essential.
• Is willing to complete a pre-employment medical and police check, including drug and alcohol testing.
