Job Description

Accessibility (DDA) Consultant - Market Leading Building Regulations Consultancy

Salexo Consulting is a specialist built environment advisory practice that operates at the intersection of building regulation, compliance, and private certification. They collaborate with architects, developers, engineers, and builders to ensure complex projects progress from concept to completion in a compliant and constructible manner, without unnecessarily compromising design intent.

Their project typologies include:

  • High-rise residential and mixed-use developments.
  • Commercial office towers and workplace environments.
  • Education facilities, including schools and tertiary campuses.
  • Health and aged care environments with complex user needs.
  • Public and civic infrastructure projects.
  • Retail and hospitality developments.
  • Adaptive reuse and refurbishment of existing buildings.

Salexo Consulting distinguishes itself through its timing and involvement, acting as an embedded early-stage partner rather than a final sign-off service. They work directly with project teams to resolve regulatory and accessibility challenges when design decisions are still fluid, allowing for outcomes to be shaped rather than corrected. This approach is critical to avoid compliance becoming a constraint rather than design support.

The Role: Accessibility (DDA) Consultant

This role is for an individual who views accessibility as a design input, not merely a documentation exercise. You will provide accessibility expertise across Class 2–9 projects from early design through to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead accessibility reviews at all design stages.
  • Prepare detailed accessibility reports and technical advice.
  • Interpret and apply the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), NCC, and AS 1428 suite.
  • Collaborate closely with architects and design teams to resolve spatial and compliance conflicts.
  • Undertake site inspections and post-construction assessments.
  • Support project teams in balancing compliance requirements with design intent.
  • Contribute to the development of junior consultants within the team.

What We’re Looking For:

Candidates for this role often come from diverse backgrounds. Some are established accessibility consultants with in-depth legislative knowledge seeking closer collaboration with design teams and greater influence over early-stage outcomes. Others are architects, project managers, or construction professionals with experience on complex projects who recognise the tension between compliance and design intent and wish to specialise in resolving it effectively.

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of the NCC, DDA, and AS 1428 within the NSW context.
  • Practical experience applying accessibility requirements to live projects.
  • Ability to interpret code in a manner that supports design thinking.
  • Confidence in engaging directly with architects and consultants in design discussions.
  • A grounded understanding of construction constraints and buildability.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to constructively challenge design decisions.

This role is for someone who understands how compliance integrates into design and how early consideration can prevent unnecessary compromise later, rather than someone who applies compliance in isolation.

What’s on Offer:

  • Salary: $120,000 – $150,000 + Super per year (depending on experience).
  • Work type: full-time.
  • Location: Sydney NSW.
  • Work arrangement: hybrid, balancing site and office work.
  • Exposure to complex, high-profile built environment projects.
  • Ongoing professional development and CPD support.
  • Mentoring and leadership opportunities within a technically strong team.
  • A collaborative environment where design and compliance are genuinely integrated.
