About the Role

The Examining Surveyor will lend surveying and cadastral expertise to uphold the integrity of the NSW land titles system. This involves making complex decisions on boundary definitions, offering technical advice, conducting investigations, performing reviews, and engaging in quality improvement activities. The role supports examination capabilities, industry engagement, digital transformation efforts, and ensures the uniform application of legislative, regulatory, and Registrar General requirements within land titling processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice, guidance, and training to internal examiners, surveyors, stakeholders, and external clients regarding boundary definition, plan preparation, Registrar General’s Directions, legislation, policies, and surveying practices. This supports consistent examination decisions and maintains the accuracy and integrity of the cadastre and land titles registers.
  • Assess and determine complex boundary definition matters by interpreting and applying surveying legislation, regulations, Registrar General’s Directions, policies, and established precedents. This supports accurate registration outcomes and protects the integrity of the NSW land titles system.
  • Conduct desktop investigations and reviews of complex boundary definition and examination matters, including customer complaints, requests for Internal Reviews, and Registrar General Ad Hoc review processes. Provide specialist advice, evidence, and recommendations to support due diligence, dispute resolution, and sound administrative decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with industry stakeholders, government agencies, professional bodies, and customers. Provide specialist surveying and cadastral advice, support the resolution of complex boundary matters, and contribute to the consistent application of land titling requirements.
  • Offer specialist surveying and cadastral expertise to support quality assurance activities, service and product management functions, and the transition of examination processes, systems, and applications. This includes providing business rules, technical advice, and testing input to enhance examiner capability and consistent decision-making.
  • Provide expert technical advice on complex surveying, plan preparation, examination, and boundary definition matters to surveyors, customers, and internal stakeholders. This supports consistent interpretation and application of legislative, regulatory, and Registrar General requirements.
  • Support the development of examiner capability and decision-making consistency through mentoring, knowledge sharing, technical guidance, and quality improvement initiatives that strengthen examination practices and service outcomes.
  • Contribute to industry engagement and quality improvement programs by identifying emerging issues, providing specialist technical input, and promoting improved surveying and plan preparation practices to enhance the quality of plans submitted for registration.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Surveying or a related discipline, and current registration as a surveyor in NSW.
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-registration experience will be highly regarded.
  • Extensive knowledge of surveying, cadastral boundary definition, land titling principles, and relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and Registrar General requirements, with demonstrated experience providing clear technical advice on complex matters.
  • Demonstrated experience using cadastral and land titling systems and providing subject matter expertise to support digital transformation, system enhancements, business process improvement, and the adoption of new ways of working.
  • Experience supporting organisational change initiatives, including the adoption of new systems, processes, and ways of working.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and support the development of technical capability and decision-making consistency within specialist and operational teams.
  • Highly developed communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
