Job Description

Apprenticeship & Traineeship Officer - NSW

National Timber and Hardware Association

Location: Parramatta Salary: $80,000 – $85,000 per year Work type: full-time Remote/on-site: onsite

The National Timber and Hardware Association (NTHA) seeks an Apprenticeship & Traineeship Officer for its operations in Parramatta. This full-time, onsite role offers a salary of $80,000 – $85,000 per year, plus superannuation and a fully maintained company vehicle.

NTHA represents over 700 members nationwide, including independent hardware stores and major timber and building material suppliers. Through NTHA Trainees & Apprentices, a Group Training Organisation, NTHA partners with employers to develop skilled workforces and support apprentices and trainees throughout their careers.

This position is focused on building relationships and supporting young people within the timber, building, and hardware industry. You will mentor and support apprentices and trainees and build employer relationships across Sydney.

About the Role This is a relationship-focused role where you will provide mentoring, conduct site visits, and support apprentices/trainees throughout their employment journey across Western and South-Western Sydney.

Regular workplace visits and conversations are central to this role. You will connect with each young person, understand their aspirations, and assist them in developing the skills, confidence, and workplace behaviours necessary for success.

You will also collaborate closely with their host employers to ensure apprentices and trainees receive appropriate workplace experience, adequate support, and work in a safe environment. When issues arise, you will facilitate communication between the apprentice or trainee, their supervisor, the training provider, and, where appropriate, their parents or family, to find resolutions. Your primary objective will be to maintain the employment and training relationship and help each young person progress towards completing their qualification.

Additionally, you will leverage your industry knowledge and relationship-building skills to identify opportunities for expanding apprenticeship and traineeship placements within the region, thereby strengthening engagement with employers and industry stakeholders. You will work autonomously, supported by a national team.

Duties

  • Build and manage relationships with host employers across your region.
  • Mentor and support apprentices and trainees throughout their employment.
  • Conduct regular workplace visits and provide practical guidance.
  • Promote apprenticeships and traineeships to industry stakeholders and schools.
  • Manage onboarding, sign-ups, and compliance requirements.

Skills & Experience

  • A natural ability to coach, encourage, and motivate others.
  • An industry background in timber, hardware, construction, or building products is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills – the ability to work effectively with young people, parents, supervisors, and business owners.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Genuine passion for mentoring and supporting young people.

Culture NTHA offers a supportive and collaborative team environment with flexibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to build meaningful long-term industry relationships. People enjoy working at NTHA because the work makes a tangible difference, strengthening the future of the timber, building, and hardware industry with every employer relationship built and every apprentice/trainee supported.

Benefits

  • Attractive base salary + superannuation
  • Fully maintained company vehicle
  • Laptop and mobile phone provided
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Autonomous territory management
  • Supportive national team culture
