Job Description

Environmental Advisor - FIFO

Company: Unyte Location: Townsville Work Type: Full-time Onsite/Remote: Onsite

About the Role

Unyte is seeking a FIFO Environmental Advisor for the Gawara Baya Wind Farm construction project in Queensland, situated approximately 2.5 hours from Townsville. This role offers the opportunity to take charge of environmental delivery on a major 400MW renewable energy development.

As a site-based Environmental Advisor, you will be integrated into daily construction operations, directly influencing the implementation of environmental compliance and performance on a live civil project. You will serve as the site's primary environmental contact, collaborating with supervisors, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure environmental requirements are understood, practical, and consistently met in the field.

Key Aspects of this Opportunity

  • Engagement on a significant 400MW renewable energy project.
  • A genuine FIFO, site-based position focused on practical application rather than desk-bound compliance.
  • Direct impact on civil construction delivery and contractor conduct.
  • Involvement in a long-term pipeline of renewable infrastructure projects.
  • A competitive 30% site uplift, with flights, accommodation, and meals provided.

About the Project

The Gawara Baya Wind Farm is a substantial renewable energy initiative, encompassing large-scale civil works, infrastructure development, and turbine installation support for Queensland's clean energy transition. Given the extensive earthworks and construction activities across a wide regional area, environmental performance is crucial for successful project completion.

About Unyte

Unyte is a distinctive group of companies and a leading self-performing civil contractor in Australia. Our focus is on collaborative problem-solving, delivering complex infrastructure projects, and achieving superior outcomes for our people, partners, and communities.

Your Responsibilities

You will be responsible for environmental performance across active construction works, which includes:

  • Implementing and maintaining the site environmental management system.
  • Conducting inspections, audits, and checks on subcontractor compliance.
  • Leading environmental incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Identifying and managing environmental risks in real-time.
  • Coaching supervisors and crews on practical environmental controls.
  • Managing reporting, documentation, and environmental data systems.
  • Supporting ISO 14001 compliance and audit readiness.
  • Engaging with clients, regulators, and project stakeholders.

Your Profile

We are looking for a practical, field-oriented Environmental Advisor who thrives in active construction environments. You should possess:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Earth Science, or a related field.
  • 2–3+ years of experience in civil construction or major infrastructure projects.
  • A strong understanding of environmental legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with site inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Confidence in working with supervisors and subcontractors on site.
  • A White Card and a valid driver’s licence.
  • First Aid certification, or a willingness to obtain it.

Exposure to FIFO projects or ISO 14001 systems will be highly regarded.

Your Achievements in this Role

In this position, you will:

  • Enhance environmental compliance across active construction activities.
  • Reduce environmental incidents through proactive risk management strategies.
  • Influence positive behavioural changes on site.
  • Deliver accurate and timely environmental reporting.
  • Develop trusted relationships with project teams and stakeholders.
