Bluestone Recruitment is seeking an HSR for a full-time, onsite position in Balwyn. The role operates under EBA rates.

Our client, a commercial builder engaged in a 4-level apartment project, prioritises site safety, quality, coordination, and subcontractor management. They are looking for a practical and proactive HSR to bolster the site team, champion safe work practices, and contribute to a well-managed construction environment.

The Role As the HSR, you will collaborate closely with the Site Manager, Project Manager, subcontractors, and site workers to uphold safety standards throughout the project. This position is suited for an individual who is comfortable on site, possesses strong communication skills with trades, and understands the significance of robust safety systems, consultation, and diligent follow-through.

Key Responsibilities:

• Promote safe work practices across the site.
• Serve as a point of contact for workers on safety concerns.
• Assist with daily site inspections and hazard identification.
• Support adherence to OH&S legislation, site safety plans, and company procedures.
• Review and monitor SWMS, permits, and high-risk work activities.
• Assist with toolbox meetings, pre-starts, and safety discussions.
• Follow up on corrective actions and ensure their close-out.
• Monitor housekeeping, access, egress, and site presentation.
• Support subcontractor compliance with site rules and safety requirements.
• Assist with incident reporting and investigations as needed.
• Work closely with the Site Manager to foster a positive safety culture.

Project Safety Focus: The project encompasses a variety of construction activities, including:

• Working at heights
• Scaffold installation and use
• Edge protection
• Formwork and concrete works
• Crane lifts and material handling
• Services rough-in and fit-off
• Plant and equipment movement
• Traffic and pedestrian management
• Manual handling and general housekeeping

Skills & Experience:

• Previous experience in an HSR, safety, leading hand, or site-based role.
• Experience on commercial, apartment, or multi-level construction projects is preferred.
• A strong understanding of construction site safety requirements.
• Ability to communicate effectively with trades, subcontractors, and management.
• Confidence in identifying hazards and raising safety concerns.
• A practical, proactive, and solutions-focused approach.
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
• Ability to support site delivery while maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications:

• Construction White Card required.
• HSR training is preferred.
• First Aid, Working at Heights, EWP, or Traffic Management tickets are desirable.

Reporting Line: This role reports to the Site Manager, with support available from the Project Manager and HSEQ Manager where required.
