This is an opportunity to play a key role in fostering positive workplace relations, ensuring industrial compliance, and supporting a large, dynamic construction workforce. You will work closely with project leadership, HR, payroll, subcontractors, and employee representatives, offering trusted advice, building strong stakeholder relationships, and contributing to a compliant, productive, and collaborative workplace.

As the Industrial Relations Advisor, you will be responsible for providing expert industrial relations advice and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, enterprise agreements, and workplace policies. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert advice on industrial relations matters, including the interpretation of legislation, Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and employment contracts.
  • Supporting managers with employee relations, performance management, disciplinary processes, issue resolution, probation, and return-to-work matters.
  • Working closely with Payroll to ensure the correct application of industrial instruments and resolve payroll-related queries.
  • Managing union right of entry processes and liaising professionally with union officials.
  • Responding to industrial incidents in accordance with project contingency plans and industrial risk management strategies.
  • Coordinating subcontractor pre-qualification audits and workforce mobilisation activities.
  • Monitoring and supporting compliance across the project and subcontractor workforce.
  • Developing, reviewing, and implementing workplace policies and procedures.
  • Delivering training and coaching to leaders and employees on industrial and employment relations topics.
  • Preparing employment contracts and employee correspondence.
  • Identifying emerging workplace issues and implementing proactive strategies to minimise industrial risk.
  • Building strong relationships with project leaders, employees, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Employment Relations, Organisational Psychology, Law, or a related discipline (preferred).
  • White Card.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year's experience in an Industrial Relations, Employee Relations, or Human Resources role, ideally within the construction industry.
  • Experience applying HR and IR systems, processes, and legislation.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to plan and deliver longer-term initiatives.

Skills & Knowledge:

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Strong knowledge of the Fair Work Act and Australian industrial relations framework.
  • Experience interpreting Common Law Employment Contracts, Awards, and Enterprise Agreements.
  • Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building abilities.
  • A proactive approach with excellent initiative.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
