Job Description

Mechanical Estimator

Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure

Abergeldie, a contractor with over three decades of experience and majority local ownership, specialises in delivering complex projects across water, utilities, bridges, roads, rail, underground, energy, and community infrastructure. We build the essential infrastructure that underpins better communities.

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our New South Wales team, based at our Regents Park office. This full-time, onsite role involves a key function in tendering for mechanical scopes within water and wastewater projects. Your responsibilities will encompass treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, and associated mechanical systems. You will be tasked with preparing precise and competitive estimates that align with project scope, identifying potential risks and opportunities, and contributing to value engineering outcomes. This position offers the chance to engage with technically intricate projects that support vital infrastructure and yield significant community benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review tender documentation to ensure a complete understanding and capture of mechanical scope and requirements.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, take-offs, and methodologies for mechanical works.
  • Coordinate and engage with subcontractors and suppliers for mechanical packages.
  • Assess risks, opportunities, and value engineering options within tenders.
  • Prepare tender submissions for internal review and approval.
  • Support post-tender clarification, negotiations, and client engagement.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in estimating mechanical packages within water/wastewater projects.
  • A strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, pipework, valves, and treatment equipment.
  • The ability to manage individual tenders while also contributing to broader bid teams.
  • Proficient analytical, commercial, and problem-solving skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Australian standards, contract specifications, and estimating software.
