Design & Build is seeking an experienced Project Design Manager for a contract position in Sydney NSW. The role offers a salary of $230,000 and is an onsite position.

An opportunity exists to join the team delivering one of Sydney's most significant mixed-use precinct developments. Working on a landmark urban renewal project, you will report to a Senior Project Design Manager. This role involves taking ownership of the architectural coordination and design management for at least two major buildings within either Build-to-Rent (BTR) or Build-to-Sell (BTS) developments. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual with an architecture, design, or engineering background who enjoys leading multidisciplinary teams, coordinating complex projects, and influencing design outcomes from concept through to construction.

The Role As Project Design Manager, you will serve as the primary interface between consultants, development, and construction teams, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest design quality. Your responsibilities will include managing the design process across multiple disciplines while balancing commercial outcomes, buildability, sustainability, and design excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the overall architectural and multidisciplinary design coordination across multiple buildings.
• Manage consultants throughout all stages of design, procurement, and documentation.
• Drive design programmes to align with procurement and construction milestones.
• Coordinate architects, engineers, and specialist consultants to deliver integrated design solutions.
• Review documentation to ensure quality, buildability, and compliance with project requirements.
• Identify value optimisation opportunities without compromising design intent.
• Facilitate design workshops, stakeholder meetings, and consultant coordination sessions.
• Manage consultant appointments, scopes of work, and design budgets.
• Work closely with construction teams to resolve design challenges throughout delivery.
• Champion innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement across the project.

About You

• A background in Architecture, Design Management, or Engineering.
• Experience delivering large-scale commercial, residential, or mixed-use developments.
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary design coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience managing consultant teams and design programmes.
• Knowledge of construction methodology, buildability, and value engineering.
• The ability to influence project outcomes while balancing quality, programme, and commercial objectives.
