Paspaley is a family-owned Australian group with a long-standing reputation as a pioneer of the South Sea pearling industry and a diversified portfolio spanning maritime, aviation, property, agriculture, and hospitality. Northern Ship Support Pty Ltd (NSS), a member of the Paspaley Group, has been appointed by the Northern Territory Government as the operator of the Darwin Ship Lift (DSL) facility. This facility is a critical piece of national maritime infrastructure currently under construction at East Arm.

The Darwin Ship Lift will position Darwin as a key maritime sustainment hub supporting Defence and industry across the Indo-Pacific. This role offers a rare opportunity to contribute to the operational readiness and establishment of technical systems for a nationally significant infrastructure asset at a formative stage, with operations scheduled to commence in 2027.

NSS is establishing the operational framework for the DSL facility. We are seeking a Project Officer with 2–6 years of post-graduate experience to join our growing NSS team. This role provides broad exposure across technical project management, asset management systems, engineering interfaces, and consultant management, offering a strong platform for developing a well-rounded career in infrastructure, maritime, or asset-intensive industries. This is a hands-on role supporting the delivery of systems, processes, and documentation required to transition the DSL facility into operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Contribute to programme management activities, including tracking deliverables, milestones, and action items.
  • Assist in the preparation of Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical queries.
  • Support the development and implementation of the facility’s asset management system (aligned with ISO 55001), including asset registers, maintenance strategies, and supporting documentation.
  • Support coordination and management of technical consultants, including:
  • Preparation of Scope of Works.
  • Reviewing proposal submissions.
  • Tracking of deliverables and deadlines.
  • Assist in the development of technical procedures, work instructions, and operational documentation.
  • Support engineering design reviews.
  • Attend site visit inspections.

  • Tertiary qualification (Bachelor’s degree), ideally in:
  • Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Marine/Maritime or related)
  • Naval Architecture
  • Project Management
  • Commerce (will also be considered where supported by industry experience)
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint).

  • Experience working in:
  • Engineering consultancy.
  • Infrastructure, marine, or industrial projects.
  • Asset management or maintenance.
  • Consultant coordination or engineering design environments.
  • Exposure to:
  • Asset management frameworks (e.g. ISO 55001).
  • Project controls or programme management tools (e.g. MS Project).
  • Marine projects.

Personal Attributes

  • Proactive and willing to learn across a broad range of disciplines.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, evolving project environment.

Why Join

  • Exposure to a landmark maritime infrastructure project.
  • Broad and diverse experience across technical, operational, and commercial areas.
