Technical Manager - Building Systems
Paal Kit Homes Pty Ltd is seeking a Technical Manager to join their team in Emu Plains. This is a full-time, onsite position.

The company manufactures its own steel frames and provides complete building kits with detailed plans, instructions, and technical support across Australia. The Role This position involves product development, product testing, and the creation of assembly instructions and technical details. You will be responsible for researching, validating, documenting, and supporting construction methods, materials, and system changes to ensure Paal Kit Homes remains an innovative and advanced company within the industry. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, suppliers, and external consulting engineers to ensure our systems comply with the NCC, Australian Standards, and state-based requirements. This role is suited for an individual who enjoys problem-solving, detailed thinking, and translating complex construction issues into clear, buildable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Development & Research
- Research building products, systems, and construction techniques to continuously improve the product.
- Evaluate supplier products and liaise with manufacturers where required.
- Ensure new materials integrate with the light gauge steel framing system.
- Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise and develop practical, buildable solutions.
- Confirm compliance with NCC requirements and relevant Australian Standards.
- System Design & Improvement
- Develop and refine construction details for the steel framing system.
- Adapt systems to suit different jurisdictions, site conditions, and climatic requirements, including bushfire ratings, cyclonic conditions, and snow load.
- Respond to NCC updates and regulatory changes by developing compliant technical solutions.
- Work with consulting engineers on matters such as bracing, wind loads, snow loads, and structural performance.
- Documentation & Communication
- Prepare clear, step-by-step instructions, construction details, and technical notes for inclusion in documentation packs.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to internal staff, engineers, suppliers, and builders.
- Provide technical input to support staff and assist with resolving on-site issues when required.
About You You are a practical, detail-oriented professional who enjoys solving construction problems and improving real-world building systems.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Strong understanding of residential building construction.
- Solid working knowledge of the NCC and relevant Australian Standards.
- Ability to assess compliance, constructability, and performance of building systems.
- Comfortable working with consulting engineers and understanding engineering intent (you do not need to be an engineer).
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to sketch, detail, and document construction solutions.
- CAD experience.
- Capable of being hands-on in the construction and development of R&D.
- Must be able to think from the point of view of an owner-builder and convey this message.
- Must be capable of working without supervision and take ownership of the position to ensure that Paal remains technically advanced in the housing industry.
Highly Regarded
- Experience with light gauge steel framing systems.
- Experience documenting construction systems or technical manuals.
- Familiarity with multiple Australian climate zones and regulatory environments.
- Experience supporting builders or owner-builders.
- Experience with 3D design software such as Fusion or Sketchup.

Salary: Salary commensurate with experience (expected range $120k–$140k + super).
